The Concept Cenco (an abbreviation of the Central Coast region) is a formal inquiry into the relationship between geography and gratitude. The work serves as an instrumental documentation of three transformative moments (or “miracles”) situated within three distinct townships. By removing the linguistic layer of lyrics, the project seeks to isolate the “pureness” of these events, translating spiritual experiences into a classical, structural landscape.
The Narrative: The narrative arc is a triptych of reflection. Each movement is a study of a specific locale, designed to encompass the town’s unique “mood” and social fabric. The project explores the friction and harmony between these neighboring regions, utilising instrumental music as a medium for deep contemplation on the events that defined the artist’s history within them.
The Craft: Marking a return to the foundational principles of composition, Cenco represents a deliberate focus on the technical rigors of classical music. Produced in Wyong, NSW, the album utilises instrumental precision to convey complex emotional states. The craft here is found in the subtraction; by discarding words, the work relies entirely on harmony and arrangement to convey the weight of the “miraculous.”
Listener’s Note: Approach this work as a ‘Sonic Topography.’ Listen for how each track reflects the character of its town: not just in mood, but in the structural pace of the music. Notice the technical clarity that comes from the classical influence. Can you feel the ‘pureness’ of the gratitude in the absence of vocals? For Central Coast locals: How does the music map the emotional distance between these three locations?
